Following a first EP released in 2022 and, above all, since their fabulous debut album saw the light of day in 2023 (Cosas que nunca te dije), Katovit have carved out a space for themselves on the alternative scene, writing exciting, direct songs that go straight for the jugular, to which they now add this second studio album, entitled «Calma y ruido».
Thanks to their gift for instant melodies and a passion for deliciously controlled speed and distortion, in «Calma y ruido», the Madrid trio formed by Ángel Martín (Fueu, Pretóricos) with the Bruno brothers (Altos hornos, Actual esposa) and Rafa Juristo (Pretóricos, Notdah) has created a collection of gems that synthesise the best and most electrifying expression of pure pop.
Recorded live with Hans Kruger at Estudios Montreal, the album begins with «Refugio diario». A triumphant opening that celebrates family sharing, home and neighbourhood nostalgia. It continues with «Suerte», a plea for iconoclasm and breaking free from constraints, followed by «Titán». Inspired by the legendary comic book Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), «Titán» reflects on the superficial individualism fostered by social media, as well as the existential emptiness that comes with it. «Todo ha sido en vano» is probably the darkest song on the album. In it, the trio unfolds before us a beam of despair and nihilism that anticipates «No te lamentes», which directly addresses depression. To the rhythm of Holy Week, «Cuando éramos humildes» begins with its nostalgia for the irremediable advance towards maturity, before facing the feeling of daily stagnation captured in «Hasta que no pueden más». The album ends with the end of a night with friends, «La penúltima», and with «Sueño eterno». In this closing track, Katovit share with us their fear of the feeling of living in a dream. Enjoy.
