Páramo is the personal project of Saúl Ibáñez (Lullavy), who is also a writer, through which he releases his most stripped-down songs. Following the release in 2023 of a joint single with Arico (Kwashiokor/ Fuerteventura) and a live album (Igualada 11/3/2023), the Seville-based artist has now finally delivered his first studio album, entitled «Palabra rota».

Recorded with Ernest Gómez and a handful of friends at Estudio de la paz (L’Hospitalet del Llobregat), this album consolidates what his previous references already pointed to: thanks to his rich vocabulary and elegant, concise diction, Páramo’s music allows us to enjoy a narrative that refers to experiences and moments of his intimacy, but which challenges us poetically, stretching our imagination with force.

«Palabra rota» begins with «Mademoiselle Char». A song that speaks of love as a form of resistance, of refuge, of tenderness and care as the first remedy against cruelty and dehumanisation. It is followed by «Veneno», a simple and beautiful piece about guilt and its reach, before arriving at ‘MoMA.’ In this song, Páramo reflects on the decisions we make in life, and also on everything we don’t choose. The title refers to the entrance to the museum where Ibáñez wrote the lyrics, and the first verse refers to the months he lived in Sweden. The thing is, just after finishing the song, it snowed in Seville for the first time in decades! Side A closes with a kind of murder ballad called «Nana del bosque», in which a murderer sings to the wind… From the darkness of the night, side B opens with «Madrugada», followed by «Cántaro». This composition brilliantly expresses the feeling of despair, and now we head towards the end of the album with «Desfile». A key piece and, surely, the most enigmatic composition of all, whose twists and turns prepare us for the most spiritual moment of the repertoire, in ‘Sin título #1’ (Untitled #1). A true ode to the intangible, with which «Palabra rota» ends (as well as his concerts) and in whose final verse the album’s title itself is resolved. Enjoy.
