Primo is the pseudonym chosen by Naz Aparicio (Shonen Bat, Have Fun) for his solo acoustic project; but let’s not let the polysemy lead us astray. There is nothing naïve about Primo’s lyrics, nor is there any candid innocence in his songs. Rather, if we are to prejudge, let us do so by remembering that relative who, due to his remoteness and at the same time immediacy, appears before our infant self as an alien reference, a first door to feelings that not even our closest environment is capable of bringing to the surface.
An indefatigable creator with three albums, a split with Anime Rooms and two recent EPs that are an absolute preciousness behind him («Arder» in 2019 and «Seis canciones» in 2018), Primo’s music transmits intimacy, warmth and a tenderness that is sometimes abrupt and raw, sometimes precious… but above all, it exudes talent, poetics and truth on all four sides. His songs embrace you, imprint you and manifest themselves in you without you seeing it coming. For an immense minority, there are Primo’s songs that already belong to our lives.
Continuing with the analogy, Naz’s songs are like that perfect stranger who will end up becoming your best friend and confidant during a fleeting summer, like an immanent presence that hovers over you during your most nostalgic moments, like a slight smile sketched without intention, while a new tear caresses our cheek.
