Several tours around the European continent, six EPs and the recent release of the album ‘Asalto sordo’ in 2024 have made Mejor sordo one of the best news that the Iberian avant-garde scene has given us in recent times.
Emerging from the experimental scene in Zaragoza and combining the paths of the academic and the underground, the duo formed by percussionist Luis Azcona and electronic musician Joel Rico (Guarda) masterfully intervenes and manipulates the accidental forms of the everyday, to elaborate suggestive and profound musical motifs that point in unexpected directions.
Weaving an idiosyncratic – and beautiful – connection between post-instrumentalism and field recordings, the aim of Mejor sordo is industrial exploration at its most poetic and contemporary, resulting in a work that (while it is conceptual in its starting point) reaches the spiritual.
