With their first marvellous album released just as we were coming out of the pandemic, two essential members of the Barcelona scene, Laura Maure (Liviana Mauretti, Le fou, Efímeres) and Mario Vélez (Tilde, Eh!, Linn Youki, Liviana Mauretti) inaugurated Liviana: a new project that caught us all off guard.
«Menos» (Demibol, 2021) is one of those musical artefacts that seems to have been composed from texts or, better said, conceived from a kind of melodic experimentation in which synthesizers, samplers and other loopy junk come into play, all catapulted by Mario’s drums and placed at the service of Laura’s voice.
Liviana’s music transmits truth. Their songs combine introspection and viscerality regardless of the consequences, like perfect opposites of the same coin.
