With two albums released, ‘De rerum natura’ in 2016 and ‘El ojo brillante’ in 2018′, Severine Beata presents now her third studio work, entitled ‘La era del trance’, together with her good friend and regular collaborator and producer, Javi Álvarez (Fluzo, Dúo Cobra).

While references to nature were recurrent in the previous album (with some tracks directly related to Mort Garson’s ‘Mother earth’s Plantasia’), this time they are important again. From the field recordings, foley sound effects and even the artwork by Julio Linares, the inclusion of the organic plays a fundamental role in the composition of the songs, as well as turning ‘La era del trance’ into a calm and comfortable place… For the threshing floors are cobbled surfaces – where the crops were threshed – that are located in certain areas exposed to the wind, which today have been abandoned and have become viewpoints that induce us into a kind of meditative state, in the manner of this album. A body of songs, almost always instrumental, which has been composed and performed by Severine Beata and Javi Álvarez with live synthesizers, as well as produced and recorded in real time, in its entirety.

In ‘La era del trance’ both musicians have managed to capture moments of a beauty as suggestive, intriguing and hallucinatory as it is ephemeral. In it, passages and repetitions of reverberated layers follow one another within the expressive order of live music, as well as thanks to a unique intuitive complicity. Besides, from the connection between these two freaks of synthesizers and other modular, analogue and granular junk, other types of themes also emerge from the revision of unusual references in the genre, such as the French composer and organist Louis Vierne or the Romani vocalists Maria Tanase and Romica Puceanu. ‘La era del trance’ is a musical succession of stages that seems to align a continuous soundscape, with a stimulating narrative, so suggestive that it hypnotises. This is an album that sounds different with each new listen, thanks to the aforementioned mastery of the fortuitous. But thanks also, and above all, to the talent of Severine Beata and Javi Álvarez to build such a collection of unique pieces, which constitutes an open refuge. An attractive place from the delicacy of its timbral seams, but magnetic as soon as we enter the comfortable and contemplative space that it recreates for us. ‘La era del trance’ is our place of peace, where we can assume with joy and courage the peaceful solitude.
