With two singles released and a debut album on the way, the band from Xixón led by Arantxa Carcedo (ESVA, Coru antifascista Al Altu la Lleva) and Alejandro Rodríguez (Pijamas Social Club, Kresy, Bep Kororoti) has quickly carved out a valuable niche for itself on the alternative scene.
Using a highly melodic blend of post-punk with explicit elements of cold wave and synthwave, Ciudad Naranco’s idiosyncrasy emerges from the depths of resentment, from the need to strike back at a system that is increasingly alienating and hostile, where the glimmers of light come from empathy and solidarity.
Both its stark realism and the symbolism displayed in Ciudad Naranco’s music serve to give the lyrics of their songs a narrative aura that turns them into anthems of the present: authentic gems that portray our society and synthesise it under the most eloquent formulas that pop has made available to the working class.
