Formed by brothers Julián and Pablo P. Campesino (both ex-members of Autumn Comets), Pena Máxima is born from the primary and most sincere instinct of a musician: to let out the songs that are inside him, just as they are. Their first album, recently released, is called ‘Un camino corto’, was recorded with Raúl Pérez in La mina, Seville, and is a declaration of intent.
This new configuration, reduced to a duo with their respective essential instruments (drums and guitar), has as its main consequence simplicity as the preeminent path in the elaboration of the songs and, therefore, it entails the opening of a superior, enormous emotional flow, which makes each one of the ten tracks on the album stand out with its own identity. Then, one track after the other, listen after listen, the album ends up trapping you completely.
With a melodic will that is above all else and an exquisite treatment of the timbral textures, Pena Máxima manage to capture the resources of the best slowcore and take them to their own territory, making them their own. But above all, their music elevates the essence of the best pop to memorable heights. Meet your new favourite band.
