Álvaro Barriuso is one half of Duo Cobra (the other one is Javi Alvarez) and one half of Archipiel (with Ainara LeGardon). Over the years, he has gathered experience in the world of free improvisation as part of the Colectivo maDam, Orquesta FOCO and La Risoto. Barriuso released his first studio album in 2016.
‘Siempre volviendo a casa’ is music written for the collective memory of Kesh, the inhabitants of a future world brought to life by Ursula K. Le Guin’s ‘Always coming home’. Among the many files that make up this novel, which straddles science fiction and anthropology, the writer collects found texts, legends, short stories, folk songs, recipes, transcriptions of plays…
The album is Barriuso’s attempt to rescue this collection of songs from a future tradition that is yet to be and relocate it in our present day time. ‘Always coming home’ is the unavoidable consequence of setting off on a personal journey. It is a beautiful tribute to songs that have come full circle. To that end, the artist draws on his voice and guitar and rhythms from the Americas.
