Hermann Gäns is a composer, musician and sound artist with an extensive career in bands such as Antigua y barbuda or Pape, as well as an active member of the artistic collective Pr0t0c0lectiv0 from Navarre. His musical practice encompasses a complex melting pot of sensibilities, all of them now immortalised in this very personal electronic project, with which he is releasing his first album, entitled «Le moulin».
Composed entirely in a mill on a river and recorded by the artist himself on French soil, «Le moulin» is a minimalist studio work, sometimes drifting towards synthesised music. In it, Gäns is inspired by various concepts about nature and gravity, threaded together in a sort of continuum or constant plane that runs through the six pieces and that refers to its own weight and its own musical lightness. Thus, the hermeneutic speaks to us of the environment and the vital motifs from which the music is born and takes shape, thus displaying an exceptional exercise of exploration and instrumentalisation of memory… only to vanish afterwards.
Veiled in a halo of melancholy and highly personal romanticism, the themes in this opus seem to document the author’s attempt to rescue images from memory and confront their presence -the power of suggestion and then resign himself to letting them sink back into the current of oblivion, returning them to remission. Thanks to this, Gäns manages to give shape to a generous synthetic lucubration that gives us access to the entrails of his intimacy, which musically translates into a sort of suspension or ethereal and indefinite -but very melodically suggestive- floating that advances through kaleidoscopic passages in a latent, slow and subtle drift, towards the irreversible culmination of the vital cycle. For indeed «Le moulin» is the intimate, physical and mental space where the album has been composed, but Hermann Gäns manages to take us there, activating reports from the irrational, whose beauty detonates our sensibility.
